What is Kenpo?

Kenpo Karate is defined on a physical level as a method of utilizing one’s natural weapons in self defense. It uses flowing circular motions, and is beautiful to watch. Karate was originally designed as a physical exercise, and studying it can improve your timing, rhythm, grace, coordination, and posture.

The art is designed to quickly train you in basic aspects of self-defense. You will progress steadily towards attainable goals. As your knowledge of Kenpo grows you will be able to adapt it to suit your physical style and preferences. You will be able to handle a growing number of street situations, and your self-confidence will grow. As an art, Kenpo itself is constantly adapting to the demands of modern society, including developing defense techniques using and against weapons.

On a mental level Kenpo is not nearly as simple to define. Kenpo requires concentration and self-discipline. We do not expect that all of our students will come to us with these skills, but we do know that they will gradually acquire them at our studios.
